Who: Hayden, my darling 3rd child of four. He turned 3 years old in March. He has the greatest sense of humor. But his humor is expressed for the most part by his body language and actions. I've been concerned about his speach for about a year and a half. But because my eldest had had some speach delays, I just kept waiting it out to see if it would resolve itself. It hasn't....
When: On his third birthday I decided to start looking on line to see what information I could find. I came on a sight about apraxia. I had never heard of it and hadn't a clue what it was. I was just reading to read so checked out the website. When I read the description and in turn ask my husband to read it, we both felt that it described exactly what Hayden's speach patterns had been.
What: I did next was to start to call different people, my Dr and the school system to see what kind of help was out there. It hasn't been a pleasant experience quite frankly and there have been an aray of opinions, but a dear friend from church has been willing to offer advice and a listening ear.
Why: I am someone who can keep going if I can measure something and see I've improved. Speach is a hard thing to "measure," but I figured that if I can at least go back and read where we were to where we are "now," that it may give me the energy to keep going.
